How to find your dream job and set yourself apart from others

We understand that searching for the perfect job can be a challenging and overwhelming experience. It's like a sales process where you have to identify the right opportunities, apply, get through the interview, and then negotiate the terms of the deal.

Although it may seem easy, there are often many obstacles along the way that can make it a daunting task. But Don't worry, we're here to make your trip smoother.

We've got some useful tips and tricks for every step of the process. So sit back, relax and let us show you the path to your dream career!

The job search process

The job search process is basically a sales process. Like any sales process, it has specific steps:

  • Step 1 - Find opportunities
  • Step 2 - Apply
  • Step 3 - Conduct job interviews
  • Step 4 - Negotiation and Conclusion

Your job hunting CRM

We said this was a sales process, right? Now, as you know, every (successful) sales process requires proper documentation and tracking with your CRM 🙂

When looking for a job, it's important to keep an eye on your progress. A customer relationship management (CRM) tool is a powerful way to do this, as it allows you to organize your job search, track your applications, and monitor your interactions with potential employers.

One such tool that we highly recommend is Huntr, which simplifies the application process by allowing you to easily track contacts, notes, appointments, tasks, documents, job descriptions, salaries, locations, company data, and more.

However, if you don't want to use a dedicated CRM tool, an Excel spreadsheet can be a great alternative.

The key is to have a system that allows you to document your job search progress so you can stay organized and focus on your goal of finding the perfect job.

Find great job opportunities

It's time to fill up your pipeline!

Step 1: What do you want?

Before you start looking for potential opportunities, it's important to know exactly what you want.

You must have your ICP and ICB Know, maybe you've already done that when you your Target for your personal brand Defined, but in this case, we'd like you to go a bit deeper. Answer the following questions:

  • Location: Where are you ready to work?
  • sector: Is there a specific industry that attracts you?
  • Company size: Are you looking for a smaller or a larger company?
  • Culture: What type of culture do you prefer? Make sure it's in line with your values!
  • roles: Which roles will you be applying for? Sales Development Rep? Business Development Rep? Account Executive?
  • Miscellaneous: Any other criteria that are important to you.

Step 2: Start searching

Let's take a look There are two main ways you can discover job opportunities:

1. Job boards

It's pretty easy. In addition to the usual suspects (see the list below), We also recommend that you look for job boards that are specific to the regions in which you are looking for work. A simple “Sales/SDR/BDR/AE Jobs in X” on Google should do the trick.

Once you're on the job board, filter according to the criteria you set in step 1 and start screening. If you see an attractive option, save it to your tracker.

Are you feeling lazy? Start with these:

2. Networking

Remember that! The majority of jobs are not published. That's why you have to Go out and find them!

  • Find interesting Webinars and events, in which you participate regularly (weekly) •
  • Connect, meet and chat with the people there
  • Say openly that you're looking for work

Let's assume that you already have a Networking expert You and know how to have a conversation, so we won't go too deep into this topic. Let the magic of networking work for you;)

How to apply for a job

“It's really easy, just click Apply and send your resume, isn't it?”

⛔ WRONG!

When you do that, Your resume is discarded 99% of the time.

Connect before you apply

Before you submit an application and become another file on a pile of resumes, get in touch with a decision maker in the recruitment process at the company of your choice.

By initiating communication in advance, you are already setting yourself apart from other applicants while showing your initiative and motivation.

Let's do a quick empathy exercise. If you were looking for a sales star for your team, would you feel bothered by this news?

Hey X, I've seen that you're looking for an SDR in Berlin. The job looks extremely attractive! Before I apply and to make sure I'm not wasting your time, I'm wondering if [insert question of interest]

Not at all, right?

Interesting question examples include:

  • ... have you already filled the role or is it still open?
  • ... are you looking for someone with industry knowledge?
  • ... would the role serve a specific market?
  • ... do you need a specific language level?

These are all transitions to interesting conversations that:

  1. Qualify the job and make sure none of you waste time and
  2. Put you on their radar.

Who are the decision makers?

It depends on the size and type of company, but in general it is:

  • recruiters
  • Heads of HR
  • Sales managers

etc

How do I find the decision makers?

Here are a few ideas:

  • corporate website
  • LinkedIn job ad
  • LinkedIn search

What now?

Don't connect with your decision makers yet! When you do that, four things can happen:

  1. They invite you directly to a job interview
  2. They ask you to send your resume to someone
  3. They state that the best way to apply is via their website
  4. No answer

In the Cases 2, 3 and 4 (if there is no answer, you should still apply), you will probably need to write an email or cover letter.

Alright, job seekers, I hope you found these tips useful! Remember that finding the perfect job can be a challenging process, but With persistence, preparation and a positive attitude, you can increase your chances of success.
