Before Hyrise
Jaime was one of the first students that trusted us to change the route of his life. Jaime born and raised in Madrid has a passion for golf.
He studied business administration at Carlos III University in Madrid. After graduating, he felt lost and did not know what to do with his life. So, he decided to do what most people with his academic background tend to do: he joined one of the Big Four consulting companies, EY, and entered the consulting world.
He worked there for two years. He liked his job and his colleagues, and he had the stability he had been looking for. But he wasn’t fulfilled, he knew his life had to take a radical shift.
He then started to notice that he had very good people skills. Communication was definitely one of his strengths, therefore he started to grow and improve his personal relationships. While building long-lasting relationships, he thought to himself he had to exploit this skill because this is what he enjoyed doing and what he was good at.
“I discovered that I had high emotional intelligence, which allowed me to know what and how to tell people things that made them happy.”
Jaime decided to enter the sales world because he knew his skills and abilities were very valuable in this industry. He started to apply for a sales job, with no clear structure. However, he would get rejected because he lacked practical experience.
“I felt sad and powerless. I was lost because after finally having discovered what I really enjoyed after two years, I wasn’t able to find a job. I was doing great on a personal level but was very discouraged on a professional level.”
Then he stumbled across Hyrise, and loved the concept. He had a hard decision to make.
“I left my job and stability, going against friends and family opinions because they could not understand how I could leave my stability for an uncertain future.”

His Hyrise Experience
The bootcamp
Jaime joined Hyrise with a lot of uncertainty. But once he started the Bootcamp he felt more comfortable and secure. He had a small squad only consisting of him and another girl and Dom as his coach, which was very suitable for him. He loved the Hyrise structure and format.
One of the things he most enjoyed was the process of defining his professional profile at the beginning because it made him thoroughly think about his strengths and skills. Furthermore, he enjoyed the book recommendations, especially “How to make friends and influence people”. This book really changed his life, it taught him a lot of things that he has been able to apply on a professional and personal level.
“I found the course in general challenging, meant for ambitious people, who don’t fear rejections. You are not told what you have to do, you are rather taught how to structure yourself. A lot of sales professionals focus on pitching their product and forget about the added value they provide to the client and how they could solve the problem of the client. This is something that I really have learned to value throughout my new career.”
Landing a job
Jaime went through several processes with many different companies. After a three-step interview process with Wayflyer, he got hired as Growth Capital Associate. The experience at Hyrise taught him exactly what the interviewer wanted to hear from him during the interview for a sales position.
“Sales leads look for attitude and a manner of thinking, which is exactly what the Bootcamp teaches you.”
He moved to Dublin to follow his dream, leaving his comfort zone once again.
Since November 2021 he has always reached the targeted quotas. Jaime was the first BDR in the Spanish market.
“I love my job, it’s very dynamic. I get to talk every day to people that have amazing stories, which makes it very compelling. I am really passionate about my job now.”
“On a personal level Hyrise has taught me that, every time I have a problem with someone, I need to put myself in the other person's shoes. This is the only way I know how to fix the situation.”
His advice for future students
Jaime believes Hyrise is meant for people who have been working in a job that they do not like and want to change their lives. He believes if you are proactive, it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” you will find a fulfilling job in sales.
“A sales job is very demanding, the best way to get promoted in your career is to have good results, there is no other way, and in order to do so, you need a strong base and a structured mind. Hyrise helps you to achieve this, especially working with top people like Dom.”
